We collect approximate location data to improve service matching and user experience.

What We Collect

• City and Country: Determined automatically based on your IP address when you sign up or log in
• Country Code: ISO country code (e.g., US, MA, GB) for displaying flag emojis
• General Location String: Formatted as "City, Country" (e.g., "Rabat, Morocco")
• IP Address: Used solely for geolocation purposes

Note: We do NOT collect GPS coordinates, exact addresses, street-level location, or track your movement.

How We Collect Location

Location detection happens automatically in two ways:

1. IP Geolocation: We use ipapi.co, a free third-party service, to determine your approximate location based on your IP address
2. Browser Fallback: If IP geolocation fails, we may request browser-based location (you can deny this request)

Location detection is non-blocking and silent - if it fails, your account works normally without location data.

How We Use Location

• Service Matching: Show your city/country to taskers so they can provide better, more localized service
• Task Information: When you create a task, your location is saved with that task (if you allow it)
• Analytics: Understand where our users are located to improve service availability
• Support: Help our support team assist you with region-specific issues

Your Control Over Location

Privacy Toggle:

You can hide your location at any time in your Profile settings under "Location & Privacy". When hidden:

• Taskers will NOT see your location
• New tasks will NOT include your location
• Your profile will show "Location hidden"

Default Setting:

Location visibility is ON by default to provide the best service experience. You can turn it OFF anytime.

Data Deletion:

You can request deletion of your location history by contacting us at privacy@total-task.com

Who Can See Your Location

• You: Always visible in your profile settings
• Taskers: Only see your location if you have visibility enabled and they're working on your task
• Total Task Staff: Can access for support and analytics purposes
• Nobody Else: We never sell or publicly display your location

Third-Party Services

We use ipapi.co for IP geolocation:

• Free service with no account required
• Does not share data with other parties
• Only provides city/country information
• Does not track or store your requests

Data Storage & Security

• Stored securely in our encrypted database (Supabase)
• We maintain a history of location updates for security purposes
• Only the most recent location is marked as "current"
• IP addresses are stored temporarily for geolocation only

Update Frequency

Your location is refreshed:

• When you sign up for the first time
• When you log in (if more than 24 hours since last update)
• Never while you're actively using the platform

This ensures we have reasonably current location data without constantly tracking you.

Legal Basis (GDPR)

For users in the European Union, we collect location data based on:

• Legitimate Interest: To provide better service matching and user experience
• Consent: You can withdraw consent by hiding your location in settings

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve our services
• Process your tasks and facilitate communication with taskers
• Show your approximate location to taskers for better service (if you allow it)
• Process payments and manage your account
• Send you service-related communications and updates
• Respond to your requests and provide customer support
• Detect, prevent, and address technical issues or fraudulent activity
• Analyze usage patterns to improve user experience
• Send promotional communications (with your consent)

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

With Taskers

We share relevant task information with assigned taskers to complete your requests. This includes your task description, communication history, necessary contact details, and your approximate location (city/country) if you have location visibility enabled.

With Service Providers

We work with third-party service providers who assist us with payment processing, hosting, analytics, customer support, location services (ipapi.co), and other business operations.

For Legal Reasons

We may disclose your information if required by law or in response to legal processes, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Total Task, our users, or others.

Business Transfers

If Total Task is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include:
